Foundation Stage
The Foundation Stage is the first stage of the National Curriculum that focus on the needs of children aged 3 until the end of their reception year in primary school. The aim is to make learning a fun and challenging experience by specifically recognising the value of play.
The Foundation Stage Curriculum has six main learning areas:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
Each learning area has a number of early learning goals that set out the skills, understanding, knowledge and attitudes that we hope children will reach or exceed by the end of the Foundation Stage.
Children will progress at different speeds through goals depending on their age and development, but staff should understand this and plan activities accordingly. Parents can also support their child's progress through the Foundation Stage.
