Workforce Development

A highly trained workforce is central to raising the quality of education and care in setings aswell as to raising the status of working with children as a career.

As an employer or manager, it is important to invest in your team; to provide them with training and opportunities to gain qualifications and to update knowledge and skills on a regular basis.  Apart from ensuring that you are meeting the appropriate regulations and legislation, offering training and development opportunties can help to reduce staff turnover.

In order to support you the Early Years Unit, working in partnership with a range of training providers and partner agencies, provides access and information on an extensive programme of training and professional development opportunities.  These range from entry level to higher level activities to support those wishing to progress to graduate level or beyond.  In many cases they can also provide some financial assistance for fees, or staff cover.

The DfES also provides information about qualifications and training that you might find useful.  This includes a new Children's Workforce Qualifications website as well as information on priorities and standards.
