Pre-Schools (Playgroups)
Playgroups provide an opportunity for children aged 2 years and over to socialise, explore and learn through play in a friendly and safe environment.
Most groups operate on a part-time or sessional basis offering 2-3 hours of activity during a morning or an afternoon but not necessarily every day. Most groups make a charge either per session or per term.
Although they are not expected to stay with their child, parent/carers are encouraged to be involved in the running of the group either as paid staff or as volunteers. However, as a requirement of registration, groups must have a qualified leader who is responsible for the day-to-day running to the group.
Some groups are also registered to deliver early years education – their annual inspection will ensure that this is delivered to the same high standards as in other early years settings.
