Help for Students
Care to Learn
Young Parents (16-19-years-old) going back into learning can now get more help with childcare. Students under 19 who have children can qualify for up to £5,125 per child per year to pay for registered childcare. Find out more by visiting Care to Learn or telephone 0845 600 2809.
Learner Support Funds
Available to students undertaking further education courses, Learner Support Funds can be used towards the costs of books, equipment, transport, accommodation and childcare. Apply through student support, your welfare officer or telephone 0845 602 2260.
Career Development Loan (CDL)
If you are over 18 and planning to do a vocational course, you can use CDL to pay for childcare. You pay back the loan after you have completed the course. Telephone 0800 585 505 or visit the CDL website.
Childcare Support Funds
For student parents undertaking an FE course who are on a low income. Can be used to pay for registered childcare. Apply through student support or your welfare officer.
Childcare Grant Package
Available to full-time students with children under 15 who are paying for childcare. You can qualify for up to 85% of childcare costs throughout the year, not just during term time. How much you qualify for depends upon your income and the cost of your childcare. You do not have to pay it back. Bursaries
Students on health professional courses with NHS funding can qualify for a bursary. This includes a maintenance grant to cover childcare costs, day-to-day living, equipment, books and travel. Mature students over 26 who are lone parents or have dependants can qualify for additonal funding. None of this funding is repayable. NHS Childcare Allowance
A new allowance to help pay childcare costs associated with study.
You are eligible if you:
- are an existing or new NHS bursary funded student
- have dependant children aged 15 or under, or 17 or under for children with disabilities or special educational needs
- use registered or approved childcare
